Dr. Kyle Horton is running for the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners to build a healthier future for the county through accountable leadership that protects the public health. She believes our County Commissioners should put public service first, and be the embodiment of our motto, “the model of good governance.” She is committed to this kind of service, and plans to build on the momentum of her 2018 campaign to represent NC’s 7th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives.
Throughout her previous campaign, some of her top priorities were to save our healthcare, clean our water, strengthen public education, defend our Veterans, and preserve our democracy. In her campaign for County Commission, Dr. Kyle will build on these priorities and remain committed to reversing recent changes to the transparency of our county governance that she believes run counter to basic democratic norms and values.
Dr. Kyle’s filing is in part motivated by her commitment to retain local control of NHRMC. She has previously spoken out against the passage of the “Resolution of Intent to Sell.” As a local healthcare leader, she organized a rally to educate the public on the potential consequences of sale—while calling for a delayed, deliberate, and fundamentally democratic process.
She brings to the 2020 cycle a unique combination of experience and expertise as an internal medicine doctor who earned a Masters of Business Administration in a physician leadership development program. In this program, she was trained alongside MPH student physicians to understand the tremendous complexities of healthcare economics and policy.
